Students invited to attend Unicameral Youth Legislature
High school students who want to learn what it’s like to be a senator in the Nebraska Legislature are encouraged to apply for scholarships to attend the 2026 Unicameral Youth Legislature June 7-12.
The Unicameral Youth Legislature is a weeklong legislative simulation coordinated by the Office of the Clerk of the Nebraska Legislature. Student senators will sponsor bills, conduct committee hearings, debate legislation and discover the unique process of the nation’s only unicameral.
Students will learn about the inner workings of the Legislature directly from senators and staff at the historic State Capitol in Lincoln. Bills will be based on legislation considered during the current legislative session.
Housing and recreational activities for campers are coordinated by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Scholarship application forms are located on the UNL Big Red Summer Academic Camps website and are due by Jan. 23. Students who are awarded scholarships will receive a code to use during registration, which opens Feb. 10.
