Day nine bill introduction

Lawmakers introduced 66 bills on Jan. 20.

Among them were:

LB442, sponsored by Lincoln Sen. Kate Bolz, which would appropriate additional funds to the Property Tax Credit Cash Fund;

LB453, sponsored by Omaha Sen. Robert Hilkemann, which would change provisions relating to motor vehicle taxes;

LB454, sponsored by Bellevue Sen. Tommy Garrett, which would change provisions relating to the taxation of military retirement benefits;

LB455, sponsored by Grand Island Sen. Mike Gloor, which would change provisions relating to employment of a full-time fire chief by cities of the first class;

LB460, sponsored by Omaha Sen. Jeremy Nordquist, which would provide for the licensure of charter bus and limousine services and pedal-pub vehicles for the consumption of alcohol;

LB462, sponsored by Hastings Sen. Les Seiler, which would change restrictions on campaigning by public officials and public employees;

LB472, sponsored by Lincoln Sen. Kathy Campbell, which would adopt the Medicaid Redesign Act;

LB473, sponsored by Omaha Sen. Ernie Chambers, which would eliminate the power of eminent domain for major pipelines;

LB477, sponsored by Hyannis Sen. Al Davis, which would change provisions relating to school districts maintaining the only public high school in a county; and

LB495, sponsored by Lincoln Sen. Patty Pansing Brooks, which would increase the earned income tax credit.

A complete list of bills introduced thus far is available at NebraskaLegislature.gov. New bills may be introduced for the first 10 legislative days, or until Jan. 21. Committee hearings began Jan. 20 and will continue through March.

Gov. Pete Ricketts’ State of the State Address is scheduled for Jan. 22.

The session will last 90 legislative days and is tentatively scheduled to adjourn June 5.
