Applicants sought for legislative seat

Gov. Pete Ricketts announced May 16 that he is seeking applicants to fill the vacant legislative seat of the late Sen. Rich Pahls.

Pahls, who died April 27, served southwest Omaha’s District 31 in the Nebraska Legislature.

Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. CST on Friday, May 27th. To be eligible, an applicant must have lived in the district for one year, be at least 21 and be registered to vote. The governor’s appointee will serve until Jan. 3, 2023.

Voters will choose a replacement in the 2022 general election in November to serve the remaining two years of Pahls’ original term, which ends in January of 2025.
