Day nine bill introduction

Senators reconvened Jan. 21 to continue introducing bills.

Among the bills introduced were:

LB986, sponsored by the Revenue Committee, which would change homestead exemption income limitations;

LB987, sponsored by the Revenue Committee, which would adjust individual income tax brackets for inflation and exempt social security benefits from income taxation;

LB996, sponsored by Lincoln Sen. Amanda McGill, which would require state agencies to respond to legislative requests for information;

LB998, sponsored by Wilber Sen. Russ Karpisek, which would change provisions and penalties relating to prohibited acts regarding ignition interlock devices;

LB999, sponsored by Omaha Sen. Brad Ashford, which would adopt the Criminal Justice Reentry and Data Act and create the Reentry Programming Board;

LB1001, sponsored by Cortland Sen. Norm Wallman, which would allow production and marketing of industrial hemp, exempt industrial hemp from the Uniform Controlled Substances Act and provide powers and duties for the state Department of Agriculture;

LB1005, sponsored by Lincoln Sen. Bill Avery, which would create the Surface Water and Ground Water Review Board;

LB1008, sponsored by Malcolm Sen. Ken Haar, which would change duties of the Climate Assessment Response Committee;

LB1011, sponsored by Fremont Sen. Charlie Janssen, which would change the time limit on amending or repealing a municipal initiative; and

LB1012, sponsored by Ogallala Sen. Ken Schilz, which would change provisions relating to blighted areas under the Community Development Law.

A complete list of bills introduced thus far is available at NebraskaLegislature.gov. New bills may be introduced until Jan. 22. Committee hearings began today and will continue through February.

The session will last 60 legislative days and is tentatively scheduled to adjourn April 17.
