Registration open for the Unicameral Youth Legislature
High school students who want to learn what it’s like to be a senator in the Nebraska Legislature are encouraged to register for the 2011 Unicameral Youth Legislature, which will convene June 12-15.
The Unicameral Youth Legislature is a four-day legislative simulation coordinated by the Clerk’s Office of the Nebraska Legislature. Student senators will sponsor bills, conduct committee hearings, debate legislation and discover the unique process of the nation’s only unicameral.

Students will learn about the inner workings of the Legislature directly from senators, staff and lobbyists. Unicameral Youth Legislature bills will be based on legislation considered during the current legislative session.
Legislative activities are conducted at the Nebraska State Capitol Building in the historic Warner Chamber, which was home to the Nebraska Senate until the state consolidated to a one-house legislature in 1937. The Unicameral Youth Legislature is organized by University of Nebraska 4-H and has been supported by AmeriCorp VISTA, the Nebraska Cooperative Extension and the Southeast Research and Extension Center.
Registration forms can be obtained from the Legislature’s Unicameral Youth Legislature page. The deadline for registration is May 15.
