Day 10 bill introduction

Senators introduced 194 measures on the final day of bill introduction Jan. 22.

Among the proposals were:

LB525, introduced by North Platte Sen. Mike Jacobson at the request of Gov. Jim Pillen, which would adopt the Agricultural Data Privacy Act;

LB532, sponsored by Sen. Kathleen Kauth of Omaha, which would require employers to use E-Verify, prohibit knowingly hiring an unauthorized alien and provide for discipline against employers’ licenses;

LB541, introduced by Bellevue Sen. Rick Holdcroft, which would eliminate online voter registration, restrict voter registration by mail, require grounds for early voting, require hand counts of ballots and change provisions relating to voter registration and voting;

LB557, sponsored by Sen. Christy Armendariz of Omaha, which would change provisions relating to the enrollment option program and provide funding to students denied option enrollment, change provisions relating to student fees, student transportation, focus schools, focus programs, magnet schools, net option funding, the learning community coordinating council, diversity plans and certification of students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches and eliminate provisions relating to open enrollment option students and diversity plans;

LB573, introduced by Omaha Sen. Dunixi Guereca, which would adopt the Meat and Poultry Workers and Contractors Protection Act;

LB605, sponsored by Sen. Jane Raybould of Lincoln, which would require each school board to adopt a policy relating to transgender student participation in extracurricular activities sponsored by a school or an athletics or activities association;

LB616, introduced by Omaha Sen. John Cavanaugh, which would provide for enforcement of red light violations using automatic license plate reader systems;

LB642, sponsored by Sen. Eliot Bostar of Lincoln, which would Adopt the Artificial Intelligence Consumer Protection Act;

LB650, introduced by Elkhorn Sen. R. Brad von Gillern at the request of the governor, which would eliminate certain sales tax exemptions, change income tax provisions relating to nonresident income and certain tax credits and provide and change certain sunset dates relating to tax incentives; and

LB655, sponsored by Sen. Dave Murman of Glenvil, which would provide for medical conscience-based objections.
