Bills introduced Jan. 11

Lawmakers reconvened Jan. 11 to continue introducing new bills.

Among the measures introduced were:

  • LB232, sponsored by Imperial Sen. Mark Christensen, which would change use of force provisions to include protection of an unborn child;
  • LB233, sponsored by Omaha Sen. Bob Krist, which would decrease the number of members of the Legislature from 49 to 45;
  • LB237, sponsored by Omaha Sen. Gwen Howard, which would create a prescription drug monitoring program;
  • LB238, sponsored by Lincoln Sen. Danielle Conrad, which would eliminate workers’ compensation three-judge review and change certain procedural provisions;
  • LB239, sponsored by Fremont Sen. Charlie Janssen, which would require voters to present government-issued photographic identification at elections;
  • LB247, sponsored by Boys Town Sen. Rich Pahls, which would adopt the Classrooms First Act;
  • LB249, sponsored by Wilber Sen. Russ Karpisek, which would provide for waiver of restrictions on alcohol sales near postsecondary campuses;
  • LB253, sponsored by O’Neill Sen. Tyson Larson, which would eliminate provisions relating to a tax credit for wind energy generating facilities;
  • LB271, sponsored by the Executive Board, which would eliminate the office of Legislative Research; and
  • LB276, sponsored by Omaha Sen. Brenda Council, which would change a penalty from death to life imprisonment without possibility of parole and change other penalties.

New bills may be introduced for the first 10 legislative days, or until Jan. 19.

Gov. Dave Heineman’s State of the State address is scheduled for Jan. 13. Committee hearings are scheduled to begin on Jan. 18 and continue through mid-March.
