Prior approval required for insurance rates

Senators gave final approval March 1 to a bill that requires state regulation of all health insurance rates for policies issued in Nebraska and subject to the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Holdrege Sen. Tom Carlson, sponsor of LB336, said it ensures Nebraska compliance with the ACA as a prior approval state.

The bill passed on a 46-0 vote.
