New formula for dairy board approved

The Nebraska Dairy Industry Development board is stabilized by a law passed by the Legislature March 14.

Membership on the board has been proportional to the number of milk producers in the state. The formula in place designates one board member for every 40 milk production units.

LB70, introduced by Ogallala Sen. Ken Schilz, prevents a decrease in the board’s membership below its current level. If the formula results in fewer than seven members, the governor will appoint a member or members from nominees submitted by the board.

Senators passed the bill on a 45-0 vote.
