LB28, introduced by Kearney Sen. Galen Hadley, would change the deadline to June 30. Taxpayers missing the deadline would face a penalty of 25 percent of the tax on the value added.<\/p>\n<p>Hadley said the bill would help assessors have the information they need to set appropriate tax rates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis still gives individuals and businesses six months to file their statements,\u201d Hadley said. \u201cWe\u2019re trying to get people to file their personal property filings on time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill advanced to select file on a 35-0 vote.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lawmakers advanced a bill Feb. 7 that would change the late filing date for personal property tax returns.
