{"id":8489,"date":"2013-02-01T16:27:28","date_gmt":"2013-02-01T22:27:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/update.legislature.ne.gov\/?p=8489"},"modified":"2013-09-12T12:44:38","modified_gmt":"2013-09-12T18:44:38","slug":"2013-unicameral-youth-legislature-registration-now-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/update.legislature.ne.gov\/?p=8489","title":{"rendered":"2013 Unicameral Youth Legislature registration now open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>High school students who have an interest in law, government, leadership or public speaking are encouraged to register for the 2013 Unicameral Youth Legislature, which will convene June 9-12.<\/p>\n<p>The Unicameral Youth Legislature is a four-day legislative simulation conducted at the State Capitol Building and coordinated by the Clerk\u2019s Office of the Nebraska Legislature. Student senators will sponsor bills, conduct committee hearings, debate legislation and discover the unique process of the nation\u2019s only unicameral.<\/p>\n<p>Students will learn about the inner workings of the Legislature directly from senators, staff and lobbyists. Bills will be based on legislation considered during the current legislative session.<\/p>\n<p>Watch this <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/gHqdFOWmmUI\">video<\/a> to learn more about the Unicameral Youth Legislature.<\/p>\n<p>Early-bird registration is available until April 1. Registration forms can be obtained from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nebraskalegislature.gov\/education\/unicamyouth.php\">Legislature\u2019s Unicameral Youth Legislature page<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/4h.unl.edu\/web\/4hcamps\/bigredcamps\">UNL Big Red Summer Academic Camps website<\/a>.
