{"id":7505,"date":"2012-04-03T14:15:06","date_gmt":"2012-04-03T20:15:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/update.legislature.ne.gov\/?p=7505"},"modified":"2013-03-11T13:02:25","modified_gmt":"2013-03-11T19:02:25","slug":"truancy-procedures-updated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/update.legislature.ne.gov\/?p=7505","title":{"rendered":"Truancy procedures updated"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Senators passed a bill April 2 that revises the state\u2019s student truancy provisions.<\/p>\n<p>In 2010, the Legislature passed a bill requiring school districts to report cases to a county attorney when a student has been absent 20 days or more per year, whether the absences are excused or unexcused.<\/p>\n<p>LB933, introduced by Omaha Sen. Brad Ashford, requires that the report indicate whether:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the absences are due to documented illness or are otherwise excused;<\/li>\n<li>the school requests more time to work with the student before the county attorney intervenes; or<\/li>\n<li>the school has used all reasonable efforts to address the child&#8217;s absence from school without success and recommends intervention by the county attorney.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If further action is needed after the 20-day report, the county attorney, the parents and the school representative will meet at a location determined by the school.<\/p>\n<p>The bill passed 44-0.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Senators passed a bill April 2 that revises the state\u2019s student truancy provisions.
