{"id":5806,"date":"2012-01-23T16:21:24","date_gmt":"2012-01-23T22:21:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/update.legislature.ne.gov\/?p=5806"},"modified":"2013-03-11T14:08:20","modified_gmt":"2013-03-11T20:08:20","slug":"teachers-could-see-increased-evaluation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/update.legislature.ne.gov\/?p=5806","title":{"rendered":"Teachers could see increased evaluation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>School administrators would be required to spend more time evaluating teacher performance under a bill discussed by the Education Committee Jan. 23.<\/p>\n<p>LB809, introduced by Omaha Sen. Scott Lautenbaugh, would establishe a standardized evaluation framework.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Proulx, Omaha Education Association president, testified in support of the bill. He said the quality of teachers directly translates to the success of a school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t need more administrators,\u201d Proulx said. \u201cWe just need to make sure our priorities are in order.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Opponents of the bill said most districts currently have stringent teacher evaluation requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Nancy Biggs, representing the Nebraska Council of School Administrators, said additional time is not necessary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdding the extra time doesn\u2019t really improve the quality of what\u2019s happening,\u201d Biggs said. \u201cIt just improves the amount of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nebraska Department of Education representative Brian Halstead testified in a neutral capacity.
