{"id":4097,"date":"2011-03-29T14:40:39","date_gmt":"2011-03-29T20:40:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/update.legislature.ne.gov\/?p=4097"},"modified":"2013-03-11T15:10:52","modified_gmt":"2013-03-11T21:10:52","slug":"bill-would-provide-greater-flexibility-for-public-audits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/update.legislature.ne.gov\/?p=4097","title":{"rendered":"Bill would provide greater flexibility for public audits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Certain audits currently required to be performed annually or biennially would be performed when the state auditor deems them necessary under a bill given first-round approval March 29.<\/p>\n<p>Under LB337, introduced by Lincoln Sen. Tony Fulton, the following audits would be conducted when the auditor of public accounts determines them necessary:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>State Highway Commission;<\/li>\n<li>Nebraska Motor Vehicle Industry Licensing Fund;<\/li>\n<li>aid given to Indians for law enforcement and jail operations;<\/li>\n<li>funds expended by the Motor Fuel Tax Enforcement and Collection Division;<\/li>\n<li>post audits of investment transactions for the Nebraska State Funds Investment Act; and<\/li>\n<li>money received from the sale of cigarette stamps and tax meter impressions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Fulton said the change would allow the auditor greater flexibility in determining staffing needs and the timing of audits.<\/p>\n<p>A Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee amendment, adopted 35-0, removed a provision requiring the plan years for the county and state employee retirement plans to span a fiscal year as opposed to a calendar year.<\/p>\n<p>Lincoln Sen.
