Gov. Jim Pillen issued a proclamation July 24 calling the Legislature into a special session to consider legislation relating to his plan for property tax reform. Potential legislative actions outlined in the call include:
\n\u2022\tchanging appropriations approved by the Legislature last session;
\n\u2022\tmodifying state taxes on cigarettes, vaping products, alcohol, keno and game of skill devices;
\n\u2022\testablishing sales or use taxes on services and items not currently taxed;
\n\u2022\tmodifying state education aid;
\n\u2022\teliminating state sales tax exemptions;
\n\u2022\teliminating the personal property tax liability on agricultural and machinery equipment; and
\n\u2022\testablishing revenue caps that limit the authority of city and county governments to collect property tax revenue.<\/p>\n
Senators will convene July 25 at 10:00 a.m. for three days of bill introduction.<\/p>\n
Public hearings on introduced legislation are expected to begin July 29 at 9:30 a.m. Only measures that are referenced to a standing committee will receive a public hearing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
