{"id":3509,"date":"2011-02-22T12:58:50","date_gmt":"2011-02-22T18:58:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/update.legislature.ne.gov\/?p=3509"},"modified":"2013-06-27T15:46:30","modified_gmt":"2013-06-27T21:46:30","slug":"prescription-drug-monitoring-bill-advances","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/update.legislature.ne.gov\/?p=3509","title":{"rendered":"Prescription drug monitoring bill advances"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lawmakers gave first-round approval to a bill Feb. 22 that would require the state Department of Health and Human Services to establish or enhance technology for a prescription medication alert system in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Omaha Senator Gwen Howard, sponsor of LB237, said the measure is intended to prevent the misuse of prescription drugs by allowing doctors and pharmacists to monitor patients\u2019 medication use through an alert system.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals who become addicted to prescription drugs often visit many doctors and pharmacies in order to obtain multiple prescriptions, Howard said.
