{"id":19368,"date":"2016-04-13T09:23:38","date_gmt":"2016-04-13T15:23:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/update.legislature.ne.gov\/?p=19368"},"modified":"2016-04-13T09:23:38","modified_gmt":"2016-04-13T15:23:38","slug":"surgical-first-assistant-licensure-approved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/update.legislature.ne.gov\/?p=19368","title":{"rendered":"Surgical first assistant licensure approved"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Senators passed a bill April 13 that establishes a licensure process for surgical first assistants (SFA) in Nebraska.<\/p>\n<p>Under LB721, introduced by Lincoln Sen. Roy Baker, the state Department of Health and Human Services will provide licensure for SFAs.<\/p>\n<p>The bill requires that an applicant:<br \/>\n\u2022\tbe certified as an SFA by an approved certifying body;<br \/>\n\u2022\tsuccessfully complete an SFA education or other experiential or training program approved by the state Board of Medicine and Surgery;<br \/>\n\u2022\tpass a nationally recognized SFA examination adopted by the board; and<br \/>\n\u2022\thave a high school diploma or equivalent as determined by the board.<\/p>\n<p>An individual who submits evidence satisfactory to the board that he or she has been functioning primarily as an SFA in a licensed health care facility within the last five years prior to Sept. 1, 2016, will be exempt from the licensure requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Also exempt are individuals who hold a current SFA certification issued by an approved certifying body or issued by another state that has standards substantially equivalent to Nebraska\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>LB721 passed 48-0.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Senators passed a bill April 13 that establishes a licensure process for surgical first assistants (SFA) in Nebraska.
