{"id":15139,"date":"2014-03-20T09:31:53","date_gmt":"2014-03-20T15:31:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/update.legislature.ne.gov\/?p=15139"},"modified":"2014-03-20T09:45:32","modified_gmt":"2014-03-20T15:45:32","slug":"tied-election-procedures-passed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/update.legislature.ne.gov\/?p=15139","title":{"rendered":"Tied election procedures passed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A bill that allows a tied candidate in the primary election to file as a write-in candidate in the general election was passed March 20.<\/p>\n<p>Under LB144, as introduced by Bancroft Sen. Lydia Brasch, candidates for all but statewide offices who lose a primary election decision \u201cby lot\u201d are eligible to file as a write-in candidate in the general election for the same office.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, these primary elections that result in a tie are decided by lot \u2014such as a coin toss or the drawing of a card used to determine a question by chance. The loser of the decision by lot is ineligible to run for the same office in the general election, including write-in candidacy, filing by petition or filing a nomination.
