Under a law passed in 2012, state agencies are required to submit a copy of the contract and a proof-of-need analysis on all contracts in excess of $15 million.<\/p>\n
LB563, introduced by Omaha Sen. Bob Krist, would apply the approval requirement only to new state contracts.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe overall intent is to establish an open and fair process using a performance-based contracting process,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Lincoln Sen. Bill Avery, the introducer of the original law, supported the bill.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis will make government more efficient while still maintaining the essence of what we did last year,\u201d Avery said.<\/p>\n
