Day five bill introduction

Senators reconvened Jan. 15 to continue bill introduction.

Among the measures introduced were:

  • LB195, sponsored by York Sen. Greg Adams, which would appropriate funds for state government expenses;
  • LB201, sponsored by Malcolm Sen. Ken Haar, which would authorize emergency expenditures by school districts and educational service units;
  • LB202, sponsored by Lincoln Sen. Colby Coash, which would change provisions relating to DNA collection;
  • LB203, sponsored by Norfolk Sen. Jim Scheer, which would change provisions relating to solid waste under the Environmental Protection Act;
  • LB216, sponsored by Lincoln Sen. Amanda McGill, which would adopt the Young Adult Voluntary Services and Support Act;
  • LB217, sponsored by Lincoln Sen. Bill Avery, which would change constitutional officers’ salaries;
  • LB224, sponsored by Fremont Sen. Charlie Janssen, which would provide veterans preference for public contracts as prescribed;
  • LB231, sponsored by Omaha Sen. John Nelson, which would establish a uniform reimbursement rate for adult day services;
  • LB232, sponsored by Omaha Sen. Steve Lathrop, which would change judges’ salaries; and
  • LB235, sponsored by Omaha Sen. Sara Howard, which would change precinct size requirements and procedures for drawing political subdivision boundaries and changing polling places, while providing for election advisory committees.

New bills may be introduced for the first 10 legislative days, or until Jan. 23.

Nebraska Supreme Court Justice Mike Heavican’s State of the Judiciary address is scheduled for Jan. 17. Committee hearings are scheduled to begin Jan. 22 and continue through March.

The session will last 90 legislative days and tentatively is scheduled to adjourn June 5.
