The Judiciary Committee will conduct listening forums in Lincoln and Omaha next week regarding policing and racial equity in Nebraska.
Omaha Sen. Steve Lathrop, chairperson of the committee, said the forums will allow the public to speak directly to state lawmakers responsible for oversight of the state’s justice system.
“Nebraskans have had the opportunity to express themselves through public demonstrations over the past two weeks,” Lathrop said. “Now we are providing an opportunity to appeal directly to elected officials.”
The Omaha session will be Monday, June 8 at 9 a.m. at the Scott Conference Center in Aksarben Village. NET headquarters will host the Lincoln session, scheduled for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9. Both events will be livestreamed on NET and broadcast live on NET World.
Due to public health concerns, masks will be required at both events and social distancing measures implemented.
