Veteran notation on driver’s licenses passed

Senators passed a bill May 29 that amends the Motor Vehicle Operator’s License Act.

LB93, introduced by Fullerton Sen. Annette Dubas, allows eligible veterans to request that their veteran status be indicated on their driver’s licenses or state ID cards.

The bill also requires the state Department of Veterans Affairs to create and maintain a registry that includes veterans’ active duty records, status, discharge and retirement information. Those who submit fraudulent applications will have their driver’s licenses or state IDs revoked until their eligibility is verified with the department.

The bill passed on a 47-0 vote.
